I wanted to include a page for those that are interested in trying medical cannabis for a medical condition and are looking for a professional consultant. I have been an ICU nurse for 15 years and am a member of the American Cannabis Nurse Assoc. I have completed the nursing courses available at this time, but my passion is no substitute for experience. Everything I learn is from lectures, anecdotal evidence from friends, family and research research research! We are still a long way away from being able to prescribe a specific dose of a specific cannabinoid for a specific ailment. For cannabis products to be useful, one must approach it with an open mind and willingness to make adjustments during the course of treatment. It’s not going to be a miracle drug that will cure you in a day. We are conditioned to believe there is a pill for everything and unfortunately, that thinking can get us into trouble. The opioid addiction epidemic for instance – at what point did we decide that we shall never feel discomfort? When did we decide to sacrifice our health for that one hour of mind numbing ‘relief’?
One thing that I LOVE about using cannabis products is that it can almost always be used in conjunction with other treatment plans (chemo, opioids, steroids). It can act as a supplement during a time that going cold turkey is not in your medical plan. There ARE a few drugs that it can interfere with (such as coumadin) cannabis so you should always consult your physician. Unfortunately, medical cannabis is not discussed in medical school (yet) and finding a doctor that truly understands the risks and benefits can be hard to find. Don’t give up however. Don’t let someone’s biases stand in your way. Keep investigating.
